Seven pounds is a heart warming films which is about an man named Ben who embarks on a journey to save 7 random peoples lives to redeem his self for his secret past. I really enjoyed this film I thought it was very touching and I loved the twist at the end. I felt like it all worked well together and Will Smith played a beautiful part in the film. This film fits into the category genre of drama because his life is extremely dramatic and has an element of sadness also. I think that romance could be a sub genre for this film because we follow the relationship of Ben and Emily.

Amelie is a french film about a young girl who who’s motivation in life is to help people and she finds love along the way. I didn’t really enjoy this film I felt it was too cute and girly for my liking. The genres that this film fits into is Comedy and romance. The film fits into romance perfectly because Amelie finds love along the way of helping people. The comedy fits in because Amelies character is very comical with the things she says and does.

Goodfellas is a film that was made in 1990 about a gang of Italian hard men gangstas that work their way up the mob hierarchy. The genres that this film fits into is Biography, crime and drama. It fits into the Biography genre category because mobs of gangstas is a real life thing and there are many privet dangerous mobs all over the world and this film shows us the inside workings of the mobs. It obviously fits in with crime and drama because the whole film is about the drama that is caused but the mob committing their crimes. 

Sub Genres - I think that there could only be one sub genre of this film which is romance because you do see the relationship between the main characters Henry and Karen. 

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs is a children’s film. The categories of genres that this film has been put into is Animation, Comedy and family. This film fits in with the genre animations because the production of this film is a collection of a rapid display illustrations creating movement therefor creating animation movie. 

Comedy also fits in because the film is very humorous due to the physical comedy used and also the character comedy. Sam sparks the main character has a comical personality with the things he does and also the things he says, so this fits in perfectly with character comedy. Sam’s character can also be stereotyped as a ‘nutty’ scientist because he is a bit quirky and strange. 

physical comedy is also used because of the accidents different characters have within the film.  

Sub genres 

Si-fi is a sub genre that can also be linked to this film because of the science level that is a key part of the film. Sam Sparks is a scientist that creates a weather controller that produces food. This unrealistic part of the film makes it totally linked to Si-fi. 

Romance is also a part of the film because Sam falls in love with a weather who is also stereotyped to be a ‘dumb blonde’ but in actual fact she slowly revels her true personality and turns out to be an extremely  intelligent scientist. 

These are the four films that I am choosing to watch for my media and culture module. I have been set a task to watch four films with different genres and see how many sub genres are within the films. I then need to write about the different genres and how they are classified to be a that particular genre and what that genre means.
